As I make my plans for study and travel the news has been dominated by the shooting of 50 people in Orlando, Florida.
The news is terrible and our immediate response should be to weep and to pray.
Sadly the media seems to have lost the ability to do this. Instead it has quickly become a political football – about Islam, Gay rights, gun control and the Presidential election.
All of those things are important issues but first and foremost this was about the needless slaughter of human beings made in the image of God. Before talking to one another we should first talk to God – Why? How? O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act!
As we we have learnt from the Beatitudes – blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
